We all Belong

In the story "The Stolen Party" it shows the problem how people are judged on how much money they make, and not accepted. I took this story to heart because i can connect on not being accepted based on where you come from, and what you have rather who you are inside. As a kid i may not have a lot of money to offer but i had a lot inside me that was worth more than anyones money. People are so caught up in material things that they forget about whats important who your are. They forget that what you have don't make you no better than anyone else. The better clothes you put on don't make you better than next man or women. So how can anyone tell someone they do not belong, how can a person separate them self because of their money. I would not want to go out somewhere to have everyone looking down on me because the color of my skin making me not belong. How can we all be created equal but people live life against that. The money you make do not determine the person you are, so do not judge. Do not judge me before you get to know me because you would be surprised. How do you feel about judging a book by its cover? When have you played a part in judging someone, and how do you feel about that?

gender roles

BRING HOME THE BACON
In the world we live in gender roles  play a huge role in how we think about men and women. In the story "Girl" it points out many stereotypes of what a women is suppose to be. Growing up I've come across many different stereotypes from either  teachers, or my parents, or just regular people . For example the  biggest stereotype I've know is that men go to work and take care of the bills, while the women stay home and care for the kids and household. Ive never found this to be fair what if i want to be home all day and not work all day being bossed around. What if i like to cook and would rather cook everyday while my wife go to work and pay the bills. What type of man would i be in the eyes of the world? Would society label me a disappointment , would i be laughed at for not living up to the roles people have put in place for whats expected of a man. This is a issue that many do not know how to get past. Growing up i feel like it is my duty to go and make the money to provide for my family. Does a women feel as though its her duty to go work all day and provide for her family. Growing up my mother took over both roles as a single parent. My mother had to go to work bring home the "Bacon" and come home to cook the bacon also. That took away the stereotype thats its for a man to do those things because i witnessed my mom do those things. Moral to the story don't live off of how other view your life should be create your own path. What is your veiw point on gender roles?

Connection to Danger of Single Story

In "Danger of Single Story" it speaks on problems that any and everyone can relate to. Coming from an area that many would consider to be "poor" or called the "ghetto" there are stories told that are false about us. These stories are what people that do not know us, or have not seen the area believe is truth. The stories that tell is that we are a group of uneducated black people without any manners or control. This is the story a richer outside white area may be told about us. That we have no money to take care of our family, no one is working, and our parents does not care about us. These are the stories made up by people with power and they benefit off of these stories. They benefit because with these stories it keeps everyone separate. Why would anyone want to associate with a person of that description? I am living proof of how false these single stories can. Growing up in the "Ghetto" was the most fun time ever. All the kids would go out side each day and enjoy life, play every game possible. We learn a lot from our parents, and also attend school like any other child. Each night had to be in at 7 as a kid, would come in watch hands and eat dinner as a family. Life in what many would call the "Ghetto was a great part of my life and not what outsiders make it seem. These stories are nothing more than stereotypes put to keep a certain area down. What single stories have you been told? How have single stories effected your life?
